This happened to be our first Burns Christmas. Although I was upset about not being able to spend it with my side of the family (first time) it was Christmas and everything went well!! I unfortunately had to work Christmas Eve but was able to leave at 6 p.m. Just in time to make it for mass. Tom wasn't so excited about having to leave so early but I would rather sit there and have a spot then trying to figure it out.. (thanks for the life teaching mom!!)
The fun thing about this year is the fact that we actually got snow. They had called for snow on Christmas Eve but that was pushing it:) For us to get it the once was a fun and good time. Zaelur really didn't enjoy getting cold but Kyler and Brayden had lots of fun.
It did take Kyler a bit to figure out the whole fact of throwing a snowball but Brayden taught him right. It was very surreal to have the snow come down as much as it did that day but it was nice to have it. We did take the boys to see Santa, it took a few visits for Kyler to let his gaurd down and actually go up to Santa. Brayden was excited to tell him about the cookies we were making him and his lastes toy that he would like. Kyler didn't know what to think when it came to talking to him.. I was just satisfied that he wasn't freaking out like he had the first time. Zaelur, he wasn't so sure.. he saw that Brayden really liked him, Kyler somewhat, he seemed nice so it was more of a okay I'll do it.
On Christmas Eve after mass, we went over to Tom's mothers house. It was getting late when we got there so shortly after dinner and talking we had decided to go home to open a couple presents and then get some much needed sleep. Zaelur had already fallen asleep so Brayd & Ky got to open up a couple presents..
I was surprised that the next morning I wasn't waking up at 5 A.M. the boys slept in til almost 8 a.m. and it was nice to have a bit of a break:) By this time, well of course Brayden knows the routine, Ky had figured it out but Zaelur had no idea what was going on. All he knew was for the last few weeks he was getting in trouble for grabbing the presents under the tree and now it was all up for grabs.
After we finished opening the presents at our house we went over to Tom's mom again to have dinner and then open up presents there. The kids didn't want to wait for opening up gifts, it's funny how they might get exactly what they want but if they have more gifts unopened they'll just put the one aside to see what the others are. It was however fun to watch them open each present and their reaction to it, sometimes excited sometimes not and sometimes just blah.
We did have a wonderful Christmas, Our New Years was good but spent it home with the kids. I've grown quite accustom to that scenario. We had a good time with the kids watching the fireworks on tv and the countdown. It's also fun to explain why a new years come and what you want to come for the next year. I do wish all my fam and friends the best for this next year to come and I can't wait to see at least some of you. I look forward to the next time I see any of you (speically the end of Feb when Rich comes out) Take care everyone!!! Love the Burns
